Portland, ME

Come be part of a team that supports your work and lifestyle goals.

At MaineHealth, you will find supportive and collaborative colleagues, strong patient/provider relationships, and a comprehensive set of resources that will allow you to provide the highest quality care to our patients and the community. Plus, you will experience the exceptional and rewarding lifestyle only Maine can offer. Situated on the southern Maine coast, Portland was just ranked as the #1 safest place and the 8th best place to live overall across the nation by U.S. News and World Report.

MaineHealth is seeking a BC/BE Vascular Neurologist as Stroke Clinic Director. The successful candidate will evaluate new outpatients with cerebrovascular disease, provide continuity of care for stroke patients in the clinic, and enhance the multidisciplinary stroke clinic in their role as Stroke Clinical Director. There is a low frequency of participation in inpatient hospital coverage and the potential for development of a neuro-sonology lab.

The Neurology Division consists of 21 physicians, including 5 Pediatric Neurologists, 10 Advanced Practice Providers, an on-site MRI, and a Neurodiagnostic lab. The Neurology division started a Neurology residency in 2020, with neurology residents as well as Tufts University medical school students and MMC internal medicine and psychiatry residents in the outpatient clinic and on service. The Neurology group has been a premier site for neurologic care in Maine since 1988. The practice works closely with the Neuroscience Institute at Maine Medical Center to further develop the Neuroscience Centers of Excellence which supports the initiatives of our Stroke, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders and Multiple Sclerosis programs. The practice includes opportunities to pursue research through the MaineHealth Institute for Research.

Our Neurohospitalist group consists of two Vascular Neurologists, a Neurocritical Care Neurologist, an Epilepsy Neurologist and four experienced specialty advance practice providers and provides 24/7 coverage for Maine Medical Center (MMC), a Comprehensive Stroke Center, and coverage for our well established telestroke program. We work closely with three endovascular specialists and enjoy a close relationship with physiatry and vascular neurosurgery. MMC is the state’s leading tertiary care hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center, and the major neurological and neurosurgical referral center for Maine and Eastern New Hampshire. MMC has 700 licensed beds and admits roughly one thousand ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients each year.

The successful candidate will be employed by Maine Medical Partners (MMP), a subsidiary of Maine Medical Center and Maine’s largest multi-specialty group, serving the health care needs of patients throughout Maine and Northern New England. This high quality team of more than 650+ physicians and 350+ advanced practice professionals provides a wide range of hospital based, primary, specialty, and sub-specialty adult and pediatric care delivered throughout a network of 54 locations across the State, acting as a regional referral network.

Portland boasts walkable urban density in a historic downtown area, including a nationally renowned culinary culture (Bon Appétit Magazine 2018 Restaurant City of the Year) and top 10 craft beer scene (Travel Channel 2021); abundant live music; a major art museum; and a beautiful working waterfront. The area provides four season recreational opportunities such as skiing, hiking, boating, and miles of beautiful beaches. Just two hours north of Boston, this is an exceptional, diverse, and vibrant community.
